David Guetta feat. Nico & Vinz & Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Lift Me Up

I really really hate "That's How You Know". The unnecessary swearing, the weird-ass collabs, the crappy instrumental and many more elements, I could go on and on. But I'm not reviewing that poopile, I'm reviewing something that done right! So for the purposes of this review, I will outlining everything that went right here but went wrong in "That's How You Know". Also, the fact that this wasn't a single (or "Goodbye Friend" with the Script) but "Hey Mama" (which is a guilty pleasure of mine but probably one of the worst songs of his album) & "That's How You Know" was kinda surprises me. That said, here's a really lengthy review.

First off. The song title and who's collaborating. While it's not a big deal, I'm more happier with the name "Lift Me Up" than "That's How You Know". I mean, you already know that this is the superior song even before you even hear the song. I'd rather hearing the words "Lift Me Up" from my mum rather than "That's How You Know".

Secondly, look at who's collaborating. In "That's How You Know", Nico & Vinz are the main artists and Bebe Rexha & Kid Ink are the featured artists. Bebe Rexha is pretty much known as that EDM lady while Kid Ink is just a generic rapper. I was expecting some sort of blend of the genres but all I got was a poor mans "Four Five Seconds" except that it's targeted towards Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney. It feels like war. However, in this song David Guetta is the main artist and Nico & Vinz & Ladysmith Black Mambazo are the collaborators. Now you may call me hypcritical since David Guetta is known as that EDM man but at least the song successfully blends in everyone's musical style. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a male acapella group from Africa. You know you screwed up when David Guetta picks better Artists than you. Holy crap, I'm still mad that song exists.

Now let's look at the production. In "That's How You Know", it sounds like "Four Five Seconds" while this song I'm reviewing has a pretty original sound. The former is a cheap ripoff of a song that has already been released this year while David Guetta manages to wow me with the tones he used. It doesn't feel sell-outish and it feels like a legitimate collaboration.

Lastly, I'm going to look at the lyrics before I give my final verdict because I don't want to make it seem like I wrote an essay about it. In the former, the chorus is just "That's how you know you f**ked up" 4 times while the latter's chorus has "Lift me up, don't hold me down, I don't wanna be down, Don't bring me down" two times. It's pathetic to see how an EDM song has more diversity than a pop song with no Drop. My blood pressure is rising from even typing this.

Now with the verses themselves, it looks like "That's How You Know" has more diversity than that David Guetta song and I'm okay with that. However, it's littered with pop culture references while telling a story of why the subject of the song "f**ked up". "Lift Me Up" has more simpler lyrics and it makes "That's How You Know" look like an rap verse from ERB compared. However, in this beautiful song, Nico & Vinz show humility in whatever the girl/boy/whatever is doing. I like that. Nico & Vinz should be like that!

In closing, this is a wonderful song with a surprisingly good drop while still holding that little taste of Nico & Vinz.
