Einer der besten und erfolgreichsten Soundtracks aller Zeiten - quasi der Soundtrack eines ganzen Genres und einer Generation - Disco!!! Mit diesem Album startete der weltweite Siegeszug der Musikrichtung und wurde aus seinem Ghetto-Dasein befreit und für die breite Masse salonfähig (natürlich gabs auch schon vorher Disco-Hits) gemacht. Highlights sind natürlich die fantastischen Bee Gees-Stücke, sowie Yvonne Elliman, Tavares, Trammps und natürlich Kool & The Gang und KC & The Sunshine Band. | |

LARK hat alles gesagt, einer der erfolgreichsten Soundtracks aller Zeiten, klasse Film! Wow! Was soll man zu diesem Soundtrack sagen? Die vier Bee-Gees-Nummern am Anfang sind einfach nur geil und kultig und klingen für damalige Verhältnisse wirklich äußerst gut. Man merkt richtig diese Lebendigkeit der analogen Aufnahmekultur. Sehr gut gefallen mir auch die Titel "If I Can't Have You" von Yvonne Elliman die Tavares-Version von "More Than A Woman". Bei letztgenannten Titeln hat nämlich Sonny Burke, mein absoluter Lieblingspianist, in die Tasten gehauen. "Open Sésame" ist gleich in zweifacher Hinsicht eine positive Überraschung: 1. Man kennt Kool & The Gang nicht als Fusion-Band und 2. Man erwartet keinen Fusiontrack auf einem Soundtrack. Am besten klingt meines Erachtens übrigens die CD-Version von 1995. Die LP verzerrt etwas in den Höhen (durch das Medium bedingt), die MC klingt dumpf und rauscht (ebenfalls) und die 2007er Edition ist überkomprimiert. | |
Huge album, one of the most successful soundtracks of all time. It feels like a slice of the 70's on an album and is a good representation of disco music, I feel. The vocal tracks are decent, and the only thing that ruins it mostly is the Bee Gees annoying vocals. I've never been a fan of the disco Bee Gees, but the other tracks are pretty much classics. Too many instrumentals though and a lot of the songs are ridiculously long. Still a good listen. 3.7/6. | |

Het hele album wordt gered door de Bee Gees. Mijn god, wat staan hier een evergreens van hun op. De volgende nummers kan ik ook goed waarderen; "If I can't have you - Yvonne Elliman" en "Disco Inferno - The Trammps. De film heb ik toentertijd in de bioscoop gezien. Niet zo bijzonder, maar iedereen moest hem toen zien. | |

Zu diesem Album gibt es eine Podcast-Folge "1001 Musikgeschichten", in der man interessante Infos zu diesem Album kommt. Mitte der 70er waren die Bee Gees schon so gut wie abgeschrieben. Journalisten bezeichneten die Band als einen "Witz, über den sie nicht mehr lachen können".
